Thoughts on what we build around us, between us, and within us.
I have spent much of my life building.
Companies. Products. Teams. Homes. Relationships. A family. A way of living.
For a long time, I thought of these as separate parts of life. I do not anymore.
They are all forms of building.
And every one of them asks the same kinds of questions.
This site is a place to think about those questions.
Building is larger than making things.
We build companies, tools, places, and systems.
We also build trust, families, friendships, cultures, habits, judgment, and belief.
Some of what we build can be seen and touched.
Some of it exists between people.
Some of it takes shape quietly within us over many years.
I am interested in all of it.
Around Us
The companies, technologies, homes, spaces, and systems we create.
These are the visible things.
They shape how people work, how they live, what they notice, and what becomes possible.
Good building is not only about whether something works.
It is also about what kind of world it creates around the people who use it.
Between Us
The relationships, families, communities, and cultures we form.
These are built through attention, trust, responsibility, patience, and repetition.
They are shaped by what we say, what we do, what we tolerate, and what we return to.
Much of life is decided here.
Within Us
The character, beliefs, judgment, and inner life we develop.
This may be the hardest kind of building because it is easy to ignore and impossible to finish.
We become capable of carrying more only by becoming more honest, more grounded, and more aware of what is happening within us.
Everything we build also builds us.
A company changes its founder.
A home changes a family.
A relationship changes the people within it.
A belief practiced long enough becomes a way of living.
So the question is not only whether we can build something.
It is whether we understand what it may ask of us, and who we may become in the process.
Why I Write
For much of my life, I have carried ideas more easily than I have expressed them.
Writing gives those ideas form.
It helps me see what I actually believe, where my thinking is incomplete, and what deserves more attention.
It also gives me a record of how my thinking changes over time.
I have been certain about things that I no longer believe.
I expect that to happen again.
Everything here reflects where my thinking was when I wrote it. If my understanding changes, I hope these pages change with it.
I do not want to become attached to being right. I want to become better at seeing clearly.
If someone else finds something useful here, that is a gift.
What Belongs Here
Some writing will begin with a company.
Some with a relationship, a room, a spiritual question, a difficult decision, or a moment of uncertainty.
The subjects may appear unrelated.
The connecting thread is building.
This work is an attempt to build with greater awareness, and to live with greater intention.
I believe the questions matter more than the answers.
Good answers help us move forward. Better questions change where we look.
The right question can change what we notice, what we are willing to reconsider, and what we choose to build next.
My hope is not that the questions disappear.
It is that they keep getting better.
